![]() When I started out in the lending industry thirty five years ago, originating a loan was a little simpler. We looked at the borrowers past credit history, we asked them to explain what caused their derogatory credit; we talked to the local department or grocery stores, where they might have had an account, to see how they paid. We might even have driven by their current residence, to determine pride of ownership. We took a look at their saving history, had they been saving for a home? We spoke to their boss, and determined their job stability. Does this sound simpler? While these methods, might not seem any more simple than today’s methods of loan origination, it did make sense. As a loan originator, you see transactions every day (at least, our loan originators do) that make sense, like a 600 credit score, with compensating factors. What’s the reason for the low score? Does it make sense, have the problems been solved? As a loan originator, have you ever just wished you could sit down with the underwriter, and really look for a way to HELP your customer?
